For The Love Of Port

Opened today at a celebration.
The cork came out in two pieces, the colour is transparent ruby in the middle and just a tiny bit of brick at the rim, regarding the age I had suspected it to be much more brick/orange.
The nose is quite nice, not so tawny-like, so I'm hopefull. The taste is very very nice, it's smooth and elegant. Sweet red fruit, even fresh, thick but not cloying. When I wouldn't have picked this myself out of my cellar, I would have sworn it was a 10 years younger VP at least.. Everybody liked this a lot.

I enjoy this vintage, but it seems a little out of style for Ferreira. More powerful than other vintages. I like the softer elegant style of Ferreira and the '70 is not so much in that style. Could be that the vintage was just that good that style of port was bigger than normal?

This was my first Ferreira VP, but when other vintages are even better (soft/elegant), I'll try to find some other.
Any suggestions?

1980, 1983, or 1985 three good ones that won't break the bank. There's an SQVP either '78 or '79 that was really good.

1960 is also really good, but of course it will be more expensive due to its age.

I'd go with 1980, personally. Ferreira might be my favorite Port from 1980 not named "Dow".
