The newest Barca Velha

The latest and greatest Barca Velha is from the 2008 Vintage. The buzz is all over Portugal now as the Wine Enthusiast magazine has just awarded 100 points to this wine. I hate to bash any wine writer or periodical, but this is just lunacy. Is it a great wine, of course. But 100 points? You be the judge.

I generally subtract at least 3-4 points for whatever WE gives a wine. That seems to put the score back to the "appropriate" range.

I lost all respect when the Wine Enthusiast gave 50% of all 2011 Vintage Ports a rating of 95 and above. Yes, 2011 was a fine vintage, but no way that half of all Vintage Ports produced deserved 95+.

Anyway, do you know which Portuguese table wine has been given over 96 points in a legit review?

I purchased 2008 Barca Velha November 2016 and my wife and I consumed one full bottle.
Tasted Barca Velha first on its own (after decanting period) and then with food.
We ended at 95 pts. Considered one more point, but stayed at 95 pts.
It is a very nice wine and will hopefully develop further.
During same period we opened one of our 2007 Casa Ferreirinha Reserva Especial and gave it 96 pts.
