Quinta do Vesuvio vertical in Napa, CA February 23, 2018

I have Quinta do Vesuvio from 1989 - 1995 (1993 not made). All were bought directly from the distributor when I had a wine shop (heavy on port). They have been stored at 55 degrees since then.

I'd like to have the tasting from 1989 - 2000. That is enough port for a tasting.

I'm setting a date for the tasting. It will be Friday February 23, at my house or another location in Napa if I find a better place. Napa but hotels are very expensive here but better in February (off Season Prices). American Canyon is close with more reasonable hotel prices.

People could trade into the tasting by providing a bottle from 1996 - 2000.

If they do not have a bottle they can pay $90.

To make it more interesting for people traveling from far away I will host another tasting the next night.
On Saturday night I will host a tasting of seven top 1955 Vintage Ports plus Colheitas from 1952 and 1957.
See separate topic.

Moderator edit: added link to 1955 tasting.

It's a bit far out for me to plan now, but as it gets closer and dependent on my schedule I may be able to make it. Would give me a good excuse to head up there and see some friends while I'm there.

Since we are less than 30 minutes from AC this would be a great tasting for us to attend. I don't have a lot of Vesuvio, but I'm sure we can come up with something that fits. Let us know.

I'm in the same boat as Andy. It sounds great and I'd love to participate, but it's a little far out for me to be making plans since I don't know what work's going to look like yet.

Ditto for the "it's a ways away" crowd, but I'd love to travel and contribute.

Been there, done that: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=17325
But I'd definitely be interested in doing it again!
I have 1990, 1991, 1994, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2005, ...
I wouldn't necessarily cut it off at 2000, but that also might depend on how many people are involved.

I can help with that, seeing as we're planning to drive down and make a short vacation out of it. :-)

I have well over 100 wine glasses. Many are standard Libby stems, but have a fair amount of thinner stems.

I have 3 cases (108 stems) of the Viticole 9909 INAO tasting glass. Mine were purchased from a website that appears to now be defunct. They're the ~7 oz size and basically perfect for Port. Happy to throw them in the trunk and bring them if you think they'd be useful.

How many people are you expecting for each of these two tastings?

I wouldn't be able to attend. I'm in the Marshall Islands then.

The Quinta do Vesuvio vertical will be about twelve tasters

The 1955 tasting will probably be fourteen tasters

Just let me know if you want me to bring my glasses with me... we'll be driving down so it's not trouble to throw 'em in the trunk. [cheers.gif]

I guess you won't be driving a SmartCar then.

My poor little smart car was rear-ended and totaled back in March. :( Or rather, the pickup truck behind me was rear-ended so hard that it was pushed into the back of my smart car, which caused a tiny little golf ball-sized dent in the frame, which State Farm said totaled the car.

I drove my Tahoe for most of the year, then in October and November I sold a bunch of old Magic: the Gathering cards. Feeling flush with cash, I bought a used 2016 BMW 550i xDrive. So that's what we'll be driving to Napa. [dance2.gif]

I bought plane tickets. Any update on where we might be tasting? I'd like to book a hotel and rental car.

The tasting is scheduled to be at my house in the city of Napa. Many people in the wine industry are coming and one might host it at bigger place, which would not be that far away.

PM me and I'll tell you about any hotels you are thinking about.

We rented from a registered AirBnB in downtown Napa, so I should be in good shape. We're on Spencer street, for what it's worth. (I don't recall the address off the top of my head.)

The tasting is coming up soon. I'm trying to decide on decanting times and am thinking of:

1994, 1997, 2000 six hours - or eight?

1989 and the rest three hours - or four?

It is winter so they will be stored at about 60 degrees after decanting and before being brought to the tasting lounge.
