Big wicker bottle with plaster cap

Hello,
I purchased a giant wicker botlle filled with port of some kind, with a big plaster cap.
I wondered if anyone could give me some more information about how to open this bottle in a basket carefully?
There's no sign left of which port it's about and I'm also ignorant about the age.
But I want to try if it's still drinkable and maybe fill up some 75cl bottles with it.

I can safely say that that's the most unusual bottle for Port that I've ever seen!
Based on the packaging I doubt that the contents are anything special, but it will certainly be fun to open and give it a try.

I've never seen that type of capsule, even on wicker bottles.
If you open it let us know how it was.

I removed the plaster cap and took some pictures of the cork.

I can only speculate, but what fun.
Can anyone decode the writing on the cork?
How did you obtain this port, how was it represented?
It almost looks like it wasn't meant for retail but part of some Quinta's house wine, or even a reserve? It might have had a tag on it at one time or ? Pure speculation. I hope it turns out to be spectacular.

It's possible the letters on the cork mean 'Do dão', but that's only a guess. The bottle would have been bought in Portugal, most likely more than twenty years ago. At one time there used to be some kind of label on it. I'm guessing that the previous owner himself put the plaster cap on top of the cork for better conservation (?)

That plaster cap is bizarre that's for sure. No clue on what it is. I'd say open it, hope for the best and expect the worst by having a back up bottle just in case.

Could anyone advice me on how long upfront I should open this bottle?
Best to do this at the time of the party (as I would drink this with a bunch of other people)
or some hours prior to the event..

I would open it at the party and give it a go right after. It will either be drinkable or it won't. Recommend having a back up in case it isn't good.
