During a dinner in a local Portuguese restaurant in Regua May 2017, we tasted a Douro red which had a higher quality than the food (latter was lousy). We decided to buy an extra bottle (€ 18) and bring home for a better evaluation. According to the restaurant owner, a big portion of the production is sold to Brazil.

15 % alcohol. Decanted 1.5 hr. Dark red colour. Fresh, fruity aroma which also included some minerals and leather. Medium body. Taste started up as smooth and fruity, then tannins and dry minerals came on stronger. Medium length aftertaste. A relatively simple Douro red. 86 pts.
