Tasted blind. Aroma reveals just a hint of pleasant cellar must on a very subtle aged berry background, with a little cinnamon; possible green pepper and VA, but not definitive. The flavor is very developed, with slight acid pucker, and warmth in the finish. The sweetness is almost malty, with brown sugar, and a hint of molasses. This had more red hue than the following three wines (revealed later to be 1977 Niepoort, Warres, and Quarles Harris), but didn't have a corresponding fruit flavor compared to those. 90-91 points.
