1977 Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port

Post by Eric Menchen »

Tasted blind. Darkest so far in the tasting (#6), and in the running with #11 as the darkest in the whole tasting (of 1977 VPs). My guess before tasting is that this is the GC and #11 is SW. This has an off aroma, with cola and cherry as well, followed by quince, and some other soda herbs–horehound or sarsaparilla, but in a low amount, root beer. Tannins! And then soda syrup. Tastes like it smells. Malt sugar syrup. The tannins are nice, but the lack of good acid is not. Warm the long finish, but still too sweet. 90-91 points.
