Tasted this last time at Taylor's Vargellas during 2016 FTLOP Harvest Tour. That was an impressive bottle, but this one was even better. Only 2nd time for me to score a vintage port 97 pts.
Decanted 6 hrs. In spite of using the Durand (which I am used to during abt 7 years) the last 1/5 of the cork broke. Cork was soaking wet. For this bottle the perfect decanting time was 6.5 hrs. Medium redbrown colour. Subdued complex aroma of minerals and oak, then sweet ripe fruit and some floral notes. Full body. Powerful and elegant in a wonderful way. Taste showing both prunes and raisins in combination with oak and minerals. Tannins are strong but in a nice and well-integrated way. In addition to being well-structured it is also a perfect balance between acidity and sweetness. And it has a freshness in spite of being 40 years old. Long and strong aftertaste. Fantastic vintage port deserving every point. 97 pts.
