1977 Warre Vintage Port

Spirited aroma with flowers, spices, and tree bark, followed by herbaceous menthol. Sweeter than the 1970 and 1985, this tastes like a classic, good 1977 Warres. The flavors are subtle, but there is strawberry, cinnamon, and light chocolate. Warmth is less than the 1985, and better. 93 points.

Despite what some others think of this, I love this VP and think it's one of the better 1977's. It's certainly one of, if not the most, consistent showing of VP's from this vintage. Wonderful note!

I would include Smith Woodhouse among the better 1977 ports.

The only minor quibble with SW is when you drink it side by side with some other top houses you can see how it doesn't have quite the same complexity and finish. Still a darn nice Port but my experience has it just a tad off the top mark.

That's a fair point Andy, and I defer to your experience since I certainly haven't had two '77 ports side by side.
