Purchased 6 btls 2013, but never tasted them before now. Being 6 years old we thought we should make up our opinion of this vintage port before it is entering the closed phase.
Bottle no. 0424. Decanted 8 hrs (recommended by Roy Hersh) which appeared to be perfect for this bottle. Tiny bit sediments at opening. Deep dark purple colour. Heavy complex aroma of dark red berries, blackcurrant, some floral notes in addition to minerals, oak and hints of anis and dark chocolate. Full body. Powerful and quite elegant, although slightly on the rough side. Extremely fruity in a heavy way at start, but still consisting of so much in addition. During the taste the minerals are becoming more noticeable and in a very nice integration with oak. Hints of anis, dark chocolate and smoked meat. Absolutely well-structured wine with a perfect balance acidity/sweetness. Medium to long aftertaste. I really look forward to taste how this vintage port will be in 10 years’ time from now. 96 pts.
