2011 Ramos Pinto LBV Port

Unfiltered and decanted 9 hours. Very dark ruby red color. A nose full of lavender, plums and black fruit. My first impression was of lots of fresh fruit and plenty of acidity that really kept this from being too sweet, even for such a young unfiltered LBV. A wave of moderate tannins mixed dark red fruit, some eucalyptus and a touch of old wood. The enjoyable palate is rounded off with a moderately long finish full of dark fruit, tannins, and that acidity to keep it from being too cloying. A lovely LBV that should make a nice mid-term ager.

Sounds lovely Andy. You say that it is an unfiltered port and so I assume that it was also bottled the minimum four years after the vintage. From what I recall of the 1994 and 1995 Ramos Pinto LBV it was bottled after four years. I do not recall if the label mentioned that it was unfiltered but I assumed it was made in the "traditional" style which back then meant four years and unfiltered.

By mid-term ager you mean what, about 10-15 years?

yes it was bottled in 2015, so 4 years and it's unfiltered. The term "Traditional" isn't used anymore.
