Here is an idea that I hope will save a few or all of my bottles in the case of an earthquake

First, my wine rack is screwed to the wall studs

I purchased some XL Revlon elastic hair ties and wrapped them around my 1" x 2" posts, then around the neck of the bottle (see photo's)

I did a full write-up earlier but was not fast enough, was logged off

Lots of pros and cons

If someone could tell me how to rotate/decrease the size of my photo's I would do so, the pictures help

hair ties lose their elasticity over time and even break by themselves. as long as the bottle can't fall because of that i guess you're good.

You can also brace the racking system if they face each other. Place a 2X4 at the top between the racks. This will support both sides and help prevent the attachments to the walls from failing.

Weird on my phone the top set is the right side up and small. On a computer they are both sideways. I'll try and fix them.

Correct, they do lose their elasticity over time and I did break 2 of them while installing them but it is still the easiest/cheapest way I could come up with

A better solution is a metal ring attached to a chain or cable then screwed or wrapped around the wine rack but was a lot more cash and time
(would last a life time and would be easier to use given the right amount of slack in the chain/cable)

how about 2 twisted ropes that connect the vertical posts of the wine rack?
the bottle necks can be held by those. i'm not sure if i explain it well though

Even if they stretch out a bit over time, something is better than nothing. A bottle will have to come out of the rack a fair distance before it reaches its center of gravity (CG) and falls forward (down). Anything that slows or prevents a bottle from getting to that point will work.

If you are worried about the hair bands failing you could use two bands, one attached to the left vertical post, the other to the right vertical post, you would have twice the cost/time but the failure rate of the 2 hair bands on the bottle would be a little lower and your bottle would be a little safer :)
