For The Love Of Port

Two years ago we purchased 12 bottles of this port. It is being consumed on very short notice as the situation "demand" something nice. Being 50 cl it is also a nice volume for two people. Earlier this month we consumed bottle nr 9. As I have only posted tasting note for the first bottle, it was time to post an update. They have been very stable around 93-94-95 points,

50 cl which were bottled 2011. According to the Danish importer the age of this white port is between 50 and 60 years old. Decanted 0.5 hrs, but will benefit from another half hour. Light brown yellow at opening. During the time in the decanter it quickly changed to medium amber with a touch of white (green) grapes. Fresh aroma of apricot, herbs and oak. Medium to full body. Quite powerful to be a white port, and also to some degree elegant. Taste is showing citrus in a subdued way, but also nice apricot. Acidity is on the high side, but acceptable. Nice tannins in the background. A white port slightly on the dry side, especially at the end. Medium to long aftertaste. Down from previous 95 pts. It is now 6 years since bottling time, and I think we will consume the last three during 2018. 93 pts.

I like the 40 year old and have had it 3 or 4x in the past two years, 3 of them with the owner present. My high score for it was 93 points.

I just posted my TN on an old-bottled Sandeman 20 year. I agree with your assessment that at 6 years in bottle it's time to start drinking them up. Leaving these types of Port in bottle for too long is generally not a wise idea.

Some people really do like what they turn into. I've had the rare experience where the Tawny was 10-15 years old and less alcoholic, very smooth and rich and showed extremely well. But that was a rarity compared to all the other times where it seemed cloying and lacked any verve. But, if people want to age their TWAIOA, having enjoyed what they do turn into ... (especially after reading this entire thread) then please don't let us stop you!
