Bottled in 2001. I bought this specifically to see how a TWAIOA would be with 16 years of bottle age, as some people have said they get better with age. IMO, that is not the case at all and this bottle is a good example of that.

Cloudy tea brown color. Very flat tasting, sugary, lacking any perceived acidity, tea, brown sugar, and a rather short simple finish that is also overtly sweet now. It's quite apparent this has lost all of that lovely crisp acidity it shows when recently bottled and has become very cloying and simple. Not very good at all and, IMO, a very good example of why one should not age TWAIOA. Instead enjoy them within a couple years of bottling so they show how the winemaker intended them to be.

Based on your note, it sounds to me more like a very good example of a bad bottle. Even TWAIOA should not degrade as much as your note sounds like. I've had TWAIOA with over 30 years in bottle and they were nothing like you describe. Even a 35-year old "Fine Tawny Port" that I tasted had more life than this.

Also, "some people have said they get better with age"... I don't think that's quite the right quote. Some of us have said that some of them can get better with age, not that all of them will get better with age as your quote implies.

No indications it was a bad bottle. Appeared very well stored. And there a number of posts where people say they are better with age. While i don't discount SOME can be pleasant with age, the vast majority should not be held for any significant period of time.

Well in this particular case, it sounds like the judge entered the court room wanting to make an example of the defendant and gave him a life sentence, for speeding.
