Since my previous tasting note of this port, we have had many bottles of GC 1980, as they are easily available in Denmark at beneficial prices. Tasting note from bottle consumed two days ago.

Decanted nearly 7 hrs. Very little sediments. Already at opening the bottle showed lovely fruity aroma. Medium red colour at opening, which became dark red with a light rim and a touch of brown during the time in the decanter. Fruity aroma with elements of oak, minerals and prunes, all in a subdued way. Medium body. To some degree powerful and elegant with plenty fruit, oak, tannins in nice harmony with the fruit. Wet wood. Tiny bit sharp towards the end. Medium length aftertaste. This bottle of GC 1980 was more forward in developments than the previous 4-5 bottles. 93 pts.

I love this wine too! Totally under rated. A great complex port that is very concentrated and has a long life ahead of it!

The 1980 GC is an outstanding wine. IMHO, it's the number 2 of the vintage behind the other-worldly Dow.

The third label I would put in the conversation about great VPs from 1980 is Warres. I was surprised the first time, and have had it multiple times since. Very good stuff.

I have recently purchased a bottle of 1980 Warre VP.
Will post tasting note as soon as it has been consumed.
