The IVDP used to allow people to look up some limited information on the company who was issued with a particular sello number at this page here. Unfortunately the lookup function has now been replaced with a holding message saying that the lookup is "temporarily" suspended until the new IVDP page is up and running.
Anyone any idea why the functionality has been suspended or what the plans are to bring it back?

It has been like this for a year or so... no idea when it will be back. I'll ask a friend at IVDP and see what he can tell.

I don't know if any Port producers do this but a few Madeira producers track the selo numbers they apply and can tell what month a particular wine was bottled.

Re: IVDP Sello Number database
It may have something to do with the fact that many bottlers do not appear to maintain a searchable database to enable them to identify which selo number was placed on which bottle, especially when bottling standard ports.
Although they are called 'Guarantee seals' they are really just duty strips, and the sooner they are replaced with a more sophisticated system, the better..
