Interesting comments in their comparison to 2015. I've heard similar from some other producers. 2015/2016 is almost like 1991/1992. Time will tell which generally holds up better in the long haul.
It was a particularly challenging year. We really had to make use of our profound knowledge of the grapes and vines, as each variety and each plot of vineyard developed at a different pace.

Generally speaking, the 2016 Vintage Ports are brimming with colour and full of structure, with a profile that is more concentrated, robust and intense when compared to the 2015 Vintages. A classic style for a Vintage.

Same procedure as last year, one almost feel like saying.

Quinta do Noval has gone back to back with VP declarations since 2011? That is 6 years in a row.

That begs the question; Is that too many in a row? I don't know but would be curious to hear others opinions (I'll post a new topic for this).

I think 'to much' is only the case when the quality goes down. I tasted all Noval vintage ports since 2008 and they are all of high quality.

Don't think they've made an official announcement, I've not seen one, but it would make sense as they didn't declare 2015.

Yep, here is the proof. There was word last night, but I was returning home and forgot to post when I finally walked in.

https://www.thedrinksbusiness.com/2018/ ... age-ports/

What I enjoyed reading and look forward to tasting is: “exceptional” with tannins that are “among the most refined ever ..."

That is saying a LOT. I can't wait to try them in Portugal in May and then June.

Which continues: "beautiful red-fruit flavours with extraordinary intense, purple colour."

Which to me sounds like the calling card of Sousao in a very young VP. I believe I heard that Nacional sometimes contains as much as 30% Sousao, so that would make sense.

With the Nacional being a field blend, they don't control the proportions of the grape varieties in the juice, do they? And the juice isn't mixed with anything else besides the juice from this particular parcel with the legendary vines?

Today i got the first prices for a 2016 Vintage Port. It is the Kopke 2016 Vintage Port. We will be selling at €44,95 enprimeur.
I tasted the 2016 vintage port (cask sample) @ Prowein, it confirmed me again that Kopke keeps on improving with there vintage ports.
