For The Love Of Port

Our Government controlled liquor monopoly (LCBO) has just released a selection of madeiras including the following:

Barbeito 5 Year Old Rainwater Reserva Medium Dry Madeira
Tinta Fina

I know the tempranillo grape is called Tinta Fina in Portugal - but I am NOT aware that this is an approved varietal in Madeira.

Can anyone shed any light on this?
Or is it (possibly) a mistake? I know our government would never lie to us!

The Barbeito site identifies a Rainwater that's predominantly Tinta Negra (which is what I would expect) - but the LCBO does not provide a picture and it's only available on-line in case lots, so I can't (easily) inspect the bottle itself.

Mystery solved.
I contacted the Importer who confirms it's (mainly) Tinta Negra.
Merely a 'mistake' by the people who regulate the sale of alcohol in our province.
Maybe they've been smoking too much legal agricultural product.

I believe it has more than one name in Portugal other than tempranillo, so I'm going to go with both.

Yeah I was aware that it was also called Aragonez, mostly in "the rest" of Portugal, but I'd never heard it called Tinta Fina/Tinto Fino.

I knew it was Tinta Roriz in Douro.
The question I had was what it was called in Madeira (if at all).
Sorry for the fake news here - I was looking to set up a

Tinta Negra vs. 'traditional' variety tasting

so it was critical that the wine was definitely tinta negra - if it was another grape, the comparison required a different bottle.

Incidentally we now have over 25 people willing to pay and attend the actual tasting (scheduled for mid-January) - not a bad turnout (assuming no one drops out).
We have 5yr, 10 yr, 15 yr and 1995/96 Frasqueira of different styles, both tinta negra and 'noble' - I know tinta negra also has its title now!
