I am late to find out that in early December, there was a new IVDP President announced. [shok.gif]
I must admit to being pretty shocked. Of all four previous IVDP President's that I've had meetings with, Senhor Cabral was the one that I had the best rapport with and from what I know, the Port trade (majority) liked the best and considered the most open-minded and fairest for all sides of the trade. Many were not that happy that he would be leaving this post.

The former President, Manuel N. Cabral had been in his position for 7 years, even though that position is appointed to serve a five-year term. He was given the option of putting his name in for being re-appointed, (at the same time that IVV head, Frederico Falcão, was going through the same process to keep his job, but ultimately, decided not to stay). Although Senhor Cabral made the top 3, the powers that be at the Agriculture ministry instead selected someone completely new.

The new President is Professor Gilberto Paulo Peixoto Igrejas. He was a top microbiological researcher at UTAD, (The University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, which became a Public University in 1986) in Vila Real. Since taking over as President he has been slowly moving some of the IVDP services and staff from the office in Porto, up to the office complex in Régua, where his own office resides. The Quality Control and Marketing services still remain operative in Porto, at least for the time being. Who know?

There is likely more info available now, but I'll leave that to you to research if you'd like.
