1975 Butler Nephew VP

the first of 2 bottles of Butler Nephew VP (with the Belgian Thienpont label but bottled in Vila Nova de Gaia)
this was opened about 2 hours before tasting. not decanted just chilled a little. the cork was mostly wet and came out quite easily.
the color was still red but going slightly towards orange and quite translucent.
i tasted a lot of cherry and with still quite a bit of heat in it. almost like Ginja. i also got some hints of strawberry and a pretty sticky mouth. and a hint of bitter in the aftertaste that i usually connect to tawny ports. my experience with aged VP's is limited but i would say this was a very nice but not fantastic port. let's see what day 2 brings.
