Yep, 1869

Post by Chris Poulos »

Hello everyone,

Chris Poulos here. I am on a mission for a client. I'm tying to find a bottle of Madeira from 1869, of all years. Do any of you know of any collectors who may have something like this in their stash, either in the US or Europe?

Thanks for any help or insight you can offer.

cheers,

Chris

1869.... that's tough. I don't know of any 1869 Madeiras that currently exist.

Hi David!
I do have a bottle of Blandy Boal and sent a mail to Chris...without ANY response.
So I do guess that his request is fake, anyways.
But it does exist...
Cheers

It looks like he only posted his request yesterday, perhaps he doesn't check his mail or the forum quite as often as the rest of us geeks Image

Oh Yes! You are correct! Our Madeira Wine Guide shows four of them.

What I probably should have said was that I don't see any 1869 Madeira for sale in Wine Searcher.

I've tasted a 1869 Lomelino Bual and a 1869 Blandys Secial. The Lomelino was good. The Blandys was not good at all; Paul Day thought it was faked.

Regarding Blandy Sercial 1869, see here http://www.richardmayson.com/madeira-wi ... al-sercial

I want to add that I have a Blandy Boal 1869, though.

Yes, that was the tasting I was at. Someone went to the effort to try to fake this particular bottle. Obvious modern tee cork with a recent selo covered by a Blandy's capsule.

I have a bottle of 1869 Avery's Boal. It was brought into the US by Wine Imports LTD for Esquin Imports (according to the label).

Hey Andy,

Thanks for speaking up - I've sent you two emails in fact, but they must be trapped in your spam folder or the system is not forwarding them properly - feel free to call me at 707-339-5825 or email me at [email protected]. My interest is sincere and I'd love to chat!
