Alvaro van Zeller visited The Vintage Port Club in Odense, Denmark February 2014, and was the guest of honor for the Winemakers Dinner. During the dinner, as a gift from Alvaro, all guests got a 6 cl “test-tube” of a colheita from 1934 (see pictures). Emmy and I have kept our two “test tubes” and recently we decided to drink them.
Bottled 2014. 6 cl clear glass test-tubes. Decanted 20 minutes in the glass. Stored since February 2014 in a dark wine cellar. This port had a dark, dark brown colour. When decanting there was too much alcohol in the aroma but after 20 minutes it faded away. Thereafter quite heavy citrus in the aroma. Full body. Rough taste which included citrus, caramel, oak and something sweet in the background. Long pleasant aftertaste. Exciting to drink such old colheita which had many facets during the tasting. 94 pts.

Re: 1934 Maynard's Colheita port
Great note. Did you think it had faded at all after being bottled in small format for the past 5 years?

No, not really.
As it was in clear glass, which I understand is risky when it comes to having negative effects on the port, I made sure that it never had any light on itself before entering the wine cellar.
Maybe that helped.
