Bolo de Mel (Madeira sugarcane syrup cake)

Post by Mike K. »

Brought back two of these last week from the D'Oliveiras gift shop and I've already ate them both.

Does anyone know where these can be ordered, or better yet a great recipe?
I found a few similar threads, but apparently no luck recreating them.

Anyone figure it out? [beg.gif]

I see that you are in Boston, so you may want to check out the annual Madeira feast in New Bedford on the first weekend in August:

They sell bolo de mel (and other desserts) at the Museum Cafe (although not quite as good as what I had at D'Oliveiras or Borges).

Also... nearby in Fall River is Portugalia. Great market with lots of Portuguese items... they might have some there as well.

Thanks for the suggestions Marco!

I know the Portugalia Marketplace well. I stop by periodically to stock up on wine and Portuguese specialties. I will certainly look for these next visit.

I may also try experimenting with the recipe I saw in an earlier thread.
