Quaffed from the barrel on 09 July 2019, the wine presented in the glass like well-brewed tea, with the appearance of lime on the rim. The nose was tart, with hints of minerality, pointing to a certain youth – in spirit, if not in years. As with its older cousin, a 1968, the mouth was confronted with a great deal of spice upon entry, which was joined by carmelised sugar at the mid palate. The finish was long, the principal characteristic thereof being the aforementioned spice. Incredibly, given the age of the wine, one sensed a touch of unresolved tannin. The sweetness level was suited perfectly to the acidity level – the latter being perhaps a touch high, for some, though conforming entirely to the preference of this reviewer as well as the Quevedo style - and it is left to observe only that this port exhibited an extraordinary freshness. 'Tis fantastic colheita which, one hopes, shall eventually find its way from the barrel to the bottle.
