1968 Quevedo Colheita

Tasted from the barrel on 09 July 2019, this colheita evidenced a green rim and the colour of strong tea, aged as it has been on the Douro property. The nose proffered hints of caramelised sugar and mineral tones redolent of a younger vintage port. ‘Twas an unusual mix of sensations which worked wonderfully. Sharp spices overpowered the mouth upon entry, with the appearance of the carmelised sugar at the mid palate; once again, the combination of ostensibly-opposing flavours came together exceedingly well. The medium-to-long finish was very spicy at the start, giving way to a pleasing numbness of the mouth. The tannic structure of this wine remained very much in evidence and the acidity level was just right. A truly fine and unique colheita, worthy of bottling in its own right.
