1979 Kopke Colheita port

Post by Rune EG »

Purchased May 2016 at the restaurant Castas e Protos, Regua, Douro. This vintage has few good ports, but this one was very nice, to say the least! The year of our marriage, so one more chance to celebrate 40 years since our wedding!

Bottled 2011. Decanted 1.5 hr. The cork was more wet than usual, but seemed to have no negative influence. Tiny bit oxidized, but did not build up during the consumption. Medium brown “cognac colour”. Aroma is a bit shy, but detected a lot of citrus and some wood. Full body. Powerful, elegant, quite big/round, fresh, citrus (orange) and a hint of peach. Well-polished nice tannins. Well-structured colheita with a nice acidity/sweetness-balance. Pleasant minerals towards the end. Very long aftertaste. 95 pts.
