This bottle was purchased from a fellow FTLOPer last year--the cork came out in marvelous shape. In the decanter for 6 hours before the first taste. Tasted again at the 32 hour mark. Dark in the core with a deep burgundy color. Light earthy berry aroma. Hints of elderberry up front, with a chocolate and linzer torte strawberry on finish. Strong yet abrupt tannic finish that had flashes of white pepper. Rich, weighty and complex--it comes off as a bruiser. On day 2 the finish was far softer---still dry-- but more interesting, subtle and overall the wine is more rounded with the chocolate raspberry finish more pronounced. Overall, this Port is on target but may improve yet with a few more years--the tannic finish would suggest so although wonderful now.

I like this Port a lot. I think it's a delicious, underrated, still fresh, 39 yo Port with a great QPR. I have 6 more of these in my cellar and I'm going to take my time enjoying them.

An excellent Port. One of the best of the 1980 vintage. 1983 and 1985 are also excellent. The 1977 is on a higher plane, but I really like this Port.
