1937 Burmester Colheita port

Post by Rune EG »

The last of three bottles purchased in Denmark March 2011, i.e. been in our cellar for nearly 9 years.

Bottled 2010. Decanted 2 hrs. Medium to dark brown colour. Aroma of oak, citrus, nuts and hint of alcohol (but less alcohol than the two previous bottles). Slight oxidation at decanting, but that stayed at the decanted level and did not increase. Full body. Taste was powerful, elegant/smooth, showing caramel, citrus, oak, herbs and much more. Well-structured port. Acidity was distinct, but not negative. Less sweetness than most colheitas, but that is the style of the port house. In general, a fresh appearance, which is impressive since the port is 82 years old! 95 pts.
