2019 Madeiras: With 2 weeks left, what were your favorites?
Each year we do this and obviously we are talking about what Madeira bottles proved to be the best you have tasted this year. It can be from any tasting you have been to, or even from our visit to Madeira in May. So whether one very special bottle or a broader short list, let's hear from our beginners and experts. We don't mind if the best thing you've tried is a 10 year old Malmsey. Nobody is going to make fun of that. We all had to start somewhere.
Ambition driven by passion, rather than money, is as strong an elixir as is Port. http://www.fortheloveofport.com

My favorite of the year is easy: D'Oliveiras Malvazia 1875. Massive and complex, with all my favorite flavors of caramel, chocolate, and gingerbread.
A tie for second place between D'Oliveiras Malvazia 1907 and D'Oliveiras Verdelho 1890.
There were so many other excellent wines it's hard to choose.
But I'd like to mention a few standout surprises at a friendlier price-point: D'Oliveiras Tinta Negra 1997, Boal 1988, and Malvazia 2005.
Can you tell I'm a fan of D'Oliveiras?

Surpisingly, I haven't drunk many Madeiras this year... but my top one was the 1950 Barbeito Madeira Tinta Negra MBV.
