1977 Gould Campbell Vintage Port

Post by David Spriggs »

This bottle had signs of seepage on the label, but you cannot always tell that that particular bottle leaked because maybe the one above it in the case actually leaked. After removing the capsule it was obvious that there was some leakage from this bottle. The cork was VERY difficult to remove. One of the longest corks I can recall. The very bottom of the cork broke off but the rest of the the cork came out in chunks. Thank God for the Durand! Not as dark as I would expect. Dark, but certainly not opaque. Nose was wonderful. No corkage. Decanted for 8-9 hours. Color wise it looked great -- like a Taylor from the 1990's. Beautiful nose. Classic Vintage Port. The palate was full bodied and loaded with sour cherry, chocolate, and earth. Very long finish. An excellent showing! 93 points.
