Really dark with no browning obvious on the rim, although there might be a little. I can't see through it from the side. It smells deep and dark too, with aromas of dark fruit and tar, blackberry, and smoke, along with some tarragon in the background. Wonderful juicy flavor, with tannins too. A big sip gives some alcohol warmth, reminding me of some of the earlier wines, e.g. 1970 Ferreira VP, but the rest of the wine better balances it out. This is drinking great now, and ended up as my wine of the night, just edging out the 1980 Warres. 95-96 points. (10 Jan 20)

I like this Port a lot and you can still pick them up at a very good price online.

Arguably my favorite of the 1980 VPs, glad it showed well. In a year that seemed to lack adequate stuffing for the true VP long haul, this one hasn’t let me down.
