For The Love Of Port

Surprisingly red for a 1922, this has an orange-brown hue, but is more red than any of the colheitas (1950-1968), and more red than the 1933 Van Zeller VP and 1955 Royal Oporto VP. The aroma is a little stewed and musty, but has dried fruit, like strawberry and orange, underneath, with cinnamon, and old leather that's been stored a while in a closet. It tastes stewed as well, but there is also some sweet citrus tang. The finish is medium length, with alcohol warmth. The body is medium-light. With time the flavor is improving, to the point that it reminds me of a weaker 1960 or 1970 VP, which is impressive for this vintage today. A large taste showed some acid and a faint hint of tannin. 90 points.
