Savannah Club Madeira

What happened to the often quoted "Savannah Madeira Club"?
Does anybody knows its fate? Is the club still in existence? Of course I have read the article of Frank Prial about Johnson's tv-series in the late 80ies, but that was not the real thing, was it?
I would like to write a little more about this club in the madeirawineguide, but it is hard to find any facts about it.
Any information is highly appreciated!
Regards
Peter

I don't believe that "society" exists today as it once did. At best they probably get together for an annual "re-enactment" of a Madeira Party. I have the Hugh Johnson video where he visited this gang, it is a fun watch and when you visit next, please remind me to show it to you.

I recall that some of the members passed on (or got divorced - not sure). About 15 years ago I bought some madeiras at auction in Chicago that seemed to come from the cellar of a member of that group (although it may have been a Charleston SC group). The surviving members had picked over the cellar, but many were duplicates - which made their way to Chicago. In particular, I bought the 1827 and 1830 Madeiras there.
