1994 Petre's (Niepoort) Vintage Port

D(ecant): First aroma was very berry raspberry, with a little alcohol warmth and a hint of cinnamon and tree bark. Flavor was similar, with raspberry and cherry, combined with the alcohol for a cherry Sucrets character. Warm, but not unpleasantly so, in the finish. No tannins. There was some possible VA funk.
D+3 hours: Aromas of dark cherry, black plum, VA, light acetone. Tastes better than those chemical aromas would suggest. Still light on tannins, but there is a little acid. Medium bodied with a nice sticky tangy juicy coating the mouth fruity flavor. Orange and watermelon in the background, with the watermelon becoming more prominent like a Jolly Rancher candy.
D+5.5 hours: The VA and acetone seem to have burned off. There is still some alcohol warmth. At this point I tried the wine with several cheeses and enjoyed it, but did not notice any new aromas or flavors.

I opened this upon hearing of the passing of Rolf Niepoort. As the photo in that thread shows, this was actually bottled in 1997, not the more typical 1996.
