SAMMAMISH PORT CLUB - MARCH 2018 - Sammamish, Washington (3/9/2018)
  • NV J.H. Andresen Porto Royal Choice 20 Year Old Tawny - Portugal, Douro, Porto
Bottled in 2013. Clear, amber-orange in color. Orange spice and cedar on the nose. Unctuous sweetness on the approach. Light spirit and balanced acidity. Unctuous mouthfeel with caramel and maple on the very long finish. (92 pts.)
  • NV Bulas Porto Tawny 20 Anos - Portugal, Douro, Porto
Bottled in 2015. Clear, orange-yellow in color with lightening on the edges. Hints of lime and some methol on the nose. Medium-bodied with some cloying sweetness. Sweetarts or maybe candy hearts on the palate. (86 pts.)
  • 1997 Vallegre Porto Colheita Vista Alegre - Portugal, Douro, Porto
Bottled in 2014. Rich amber brown in color. Cola, mocha, and cinnamon spice notes on the nose. Unctuous, mouthcoating approach, but the flavor profile falls a bit flat on the mid-palate. Medium-long finish. (87 pts.)
  • NV J.H. Andresen Porto 20 Year Old Tawny - Portugal, Douro, Porto
Bottled in 2017. Clear, light yellow in color. Light tropical notes and citrus on the nose. Bright acidity with some tropical notes on the palate. Long finish with well-balanced acidity. (91 pts.)
  • 1964 Krohn Porto Colheita - Portugal, Douro, Porto
Bottles in 2007. Pale yellow in color with hints of orange in the center. High toned nose with some hints of tropical fruit. Medium-bodied. (89 pts.)
  • 1985 Fonseca Porto Vintage - Portugal, Douro, Porto
Dark purple in color with lightening on the edges. Dark fruit on the nose. Intense, like a Late Bottled Vintage Port. The light-bodied mid-palate and finish detract a little bit from an otherwise solid wine. Dark fruit on the finish. (89 pts.)
  • 2002 Real Companhia Velha Porto Colheita Quinta das Carvalhas - Portugal, Douro, Porto
Sadly, I did not take any notes on why I didn’t rate it, but I suspect it might have been a bad bottle.
  • 1979 Kopke Porto Colheita - Portugal, Douro, Porto
Bottled in 2006. Medium amber in color. Citrus and nuts on the nose. Intense flavors of toffee, brown sugar and coffee on the palate. Good acidity, and a nice long finish. (91 pts.)
