1978 Kopke Colheita port

Post by Rune EG »

Have had this Colheita a couple of times before with good impressions. This bottle was not. I am getting more and more sceptical to long time between bottling and consumption. In our house we are working our way to have only tawnies/colheitas that have max 5 years between bottling and consumption (there will only be a few exceptions).

Bottled 2013. No signs of any leakage. T-cork was more wet than normal. Decanted 45 minutes. Slightly oxidized. Medium brown colour. Subdued aroma of citrus. Medium body. Round in style, taste of citrus and touch of oak. Quite pleasant at start, on the sweet side. However, shortly after the acidity was building up quite rapidly and was not so good at the end. Medium length aftertaste. Giving the score as an overall impression (end only would have been low 80s). 86 pts.
