SAMMAMISH PORT CLUB - FEBRUARY 2020 - Sammamish, Washington (2/21/2020)
  • 1985 Fonseca Porto Vintage - Portugal, Douro, Porto
Dark ruby violet in color. Boysenberry and some light herbal notes on the nose. Some structure and acidity on the approach. Full-bodied with great acidity and tannins. Very long finish with a touch of spirit. (94 pts.)
  • 1985 Taylor (Fladgate) Porto Vintage - Portugal, Douro, Porto
Medium-ruby in color. Cola, crushed red berries and an underlying hint of mint on the nose. Cinnamon on the palate. Great balance on the mid-palate. Really nice, elegant wine that fits my idea of a “typical” 1985 Vintage Port. (93 pts.)
  • 1985 Churchill/Graham Porto Vintage - Portugal, Douro, Porto
Medium-ruby in color. Light milk chocolate with some very light herbal notes on the nose. Maybe just a touch of something off on the nose as well. Some VA on the palate. Red-hots and a touch of aguardiente on the finish. (90 pts.)
  • 1985 Dow Porto Vintage - Portugal, Douro, Porto
There is a unique nose of silicon rubber (NOT off-putting, just interesting). Very elegant and full-bodied. Cinnamon and cherry on the palate. Wonderful balance on the mid-palate and elegant, integrated finish. (94 pts.)
  • 1985 Warre Porto Vintage - Portugal, Douro, Porto
    Corked. NR (flawed)
  • 1985 Graham Porto Vintage - Portugal, Douro, Porto
Some milk chocolate and red fruit on the nose. Well-integrated and elegant. Strawberry and red fruit on the palate. Good acidity and balance on the finish. (95 pts.)
  • 1985 Gould Campbell Porto Vintage - Portugal, Douro, Porto
Medium-dark Ruby in color with a clear edge. Strawberry and red fruit, with great structure on the mid-palate. Lush red fruit and brambleberry on the long finish. (94 pts.)
