NV Vasconcellos 40 Year Old Tawny Port (2015)

Post by Glenn E. »

Medium to medium light tawny color and slightly cloudy, but with no apparent particulates. Tangy nose with some oats or other grain, and also something faintly VA-like. The palate gives a great first impression, but everything vanishes shortly after you swallow. Swish it around in your mouth and it's wonderful; swallow and it's just gone. There's some faint bitterness similar to walnut pith that lingers as a finish, but that's about it. There was some speculation that 5 years in bottle might have been too long, but that has never been my experience for older tawnies so I suspect it's just this producer's style.

91 points.
