1986 Smith Woodhouse LBV port

Post by Rune EG »

Found in my late parents-in-laws cellar. Bottled 1990. Unfiltered. Decanted 1.5 hrs. Plenty sediments at decanting. Medium to dark redbrown colour. Subdued aroma of berries, minerals and wood. Full body. As for the aroma, also the taste was a bit subdued. But still we considered the taste to be powerful and quite elegant in the consistency. Some minerals in the background. Acceptable tannins. The middle part was boring. Although the structure was OK, the acidity/sweetness-balance was not as it should be. Some bitterness towards the end. Towards the very end (3.5 hrs after decanting) it turned a bit sweeter and nicer. So, after the bottle was empty, we wondered whether the decanting time before drinking should have been longer. Medium length aftertaste. As it was, we gave it 84 pts.
