1996 Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port

Post by Glenn E. »

Tasted at a mini-vertical of 1994-1998.

1996 Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port
decanted 6 hours, which ultimately seemed too low. Recommend 7-8.

Color: dark purple with a 3/8" to 1/2" rim.

Nose: fairly closed but similar to the 1995, with an added faint hint of eucalyptus.

Palate: Smooth and rich with some very faint VA. Milk chocolate, cocoa powder. Wonderful mouth feel. For me this was the most "Vesuvio-like" palate of the flight.

Score: 94 points. I ultimately liked this slightly less than then 1995 (though gave it the same score), but it was incredibly close and I flip-flopped multiple times before finally making the call.
