Kopke Very Old Dry White Port

Post by Mike K. »

Bottled in 2019.

Clear golden hue in the glass. Sticky legs with drops that cling to the glass and never reach the surface.

Nose - Apple, un-ripe pear, apricot, subtle cotton candy sweetness, salted chocolate.

Palate - Viscous mouth feel, light fresh flavors of apricot marmalade and caramel. A pleasant sweetness is in balance with a light acidity. Evolves through notes of Mandarine orange as it slowly fades to a dry finish.

Finish - Immediately dry, like an apricot Eau de vie.

Overall - Intriguing nose, fantastic mouthfeel and richness. Flavor is quite nice but not complex. A wonderful and rare wine, to be contemplated and savored in a quiet environment. I wish the palate had more complexity. 93 points.
