S. Leonardo 30 Year Old Tawny Port

Post by Eric Menchen »

Pop the cork and immediately I'm hit with some aromas, like a wine cellar crossed with a wood closet, but not like strong cedar. In the glass, smells a little of musty dusty closet or attic. There is a hint of solvent, but more of a tangy concentrated dried fruit roll-up and cognac. Beautiful clarity, orange red hue. As it warmed, it smelled of sweet toffee and honey. Tangy sweet, with some warmth in the throat. In between, orange citrus and plenty of tart acid. Not overly complex in sweet flavors, but a little caramel aspect to the sugar. The acids do seem layered. Later there was a little spice on the aroma, like mace. I didn't score this at the time. From memory, 94 points? Maybe it was slightly higher.
