For The Love Of Port

Hi all,

Although I am not new to appreciating Port, I have just started my journey for discovering and drinking some excellent Port. As an example, previously, I would typically just pick up a bottle of LBV in the supermarket but now I am on the hunt for a decent vintage to enjoy at new year (I have no facility to store large quantities of port for a long period of time).

That leads me onto my question, a local gin distillery has some port on sale and I am just looking for guidance on if they are a decent price or not. They have:
Croft 1977 - £95
Warres 1977 - £80
Taylors 1985 - £90

All advice is very welcome! This looks like a great Port community I look forward to being part of.

Hello Jason and welcome to the forum. I am not an expert like some others on here, but the prices appear to me to be a little high, especially for the Croft. I'd say they're all about £10 or more higher than I would expect to pay. None of them are outlandishly priced, but more than what you can find them online (although you'd have to take shipping costs into effect as well).

Of those 3 Ports, the Warre's is the most reasonably priced one although it still appears a little high. It's also probably the best rated of the 3 Ports although everyone has their preferences.

For retail they're not out of sight, but not a burning deal either. A for brick & mortar I assume they're average prices in the UK?

They look a bit high for UK prices.

I tend to agree with others. Those are slightly high, but not terrible. And of the three, I would go for the 1977 Warres.
