According to the label, the Quinta de la Rosa 10 Year Old Tawny was drawn from Tonel No. 12 - which I take to be meaningless marketing-speak - and bottled in 2017. In the glass, the port appeared to be more mature than it was, evidencing darker amber hues as well as translucent qualities. However, the nose pointed clearly to the youth of the wine, with damp moss, lemongrass and green apple being the dominant notes. At the same time, the first signs of a more mature tawny found their way through the youthful sensations, with hints of tobacco, leather and cinnamon being together in evidence. At the fore-palate, there was no mistaking the immaturity of this wine: candied apple and sweet cherry struck hard, giving way to gentle spices and soft tannins from midway to the back. There was no heat of which to speak at the finish - rare enough for a ten year old - and pleasing sensations of cinnamon appeared along with the mid-palate seasoning. Overall, the palate was somewhat simple, and the acidity level of the wine struck me as a touch light relative to its sweetness. Still, my overall impression was of a better than average, ten-year-old tawny.
