I need two bottles of port. One - Vintage 2004 and the other 2002. Any suggestions? I don't normally buy port that young and do not know what is available.

I don't think they were declared vintages. Could you go back to 1994 and 1992?

This is for a co-worker who wants to buy a bottle for each of his two children for when they get married...

2004 was declared, but not 2002 according to my research. I guess the 2002 child will have to settle for 2001 or 2003?

For 2004, I am going to recommend the Vargellas Vinha Velha, Vargellas or Vesuvio... I see a repeating theme with my suggestions

There are 2002 LBVs readily available. I have my order in for 2002 vintage Ports for my daughter's birth year, but I don't know a single source in the USA that could provide it here ... so I am not much help.

The 2004 Vargellas is very good - we sampled in the Taylor Vertical that Roy attended up in Edmonton a month ago. It is not a tannic beast, so it may be ready for sampling upon the childs 21st birthday, if that is the age of consumption in MA. (self-admitted Ignorant Canuck here when it comes to drinking ages in all 50 States... we were able to drink at 18 yrs young in Alberta, so I havent paid much attention since then!) 8--)

Only other 2004 I have sampled was the Roriz. Very nice. Tannic, strong, could be a very good VP in 20-30 years.

Just tasted Vale Meao 2004 tonight and I really liked it. If you come to Montreal Moses, let me know and I'll arrange something with the importer.

I recently tried the Quinta da Romaneira Vintage 2004 which I liked. Don't know if it's available in the US.

Hi Moses,

2004 should be available. I have Noval for example. And Javali. The Javali is superb and can only get better. See my TN about it:

2002 was declared by Quinta de Roriz and should be available too.
