1995 Taylor Fladgate Quinta de Vargellas Vintage Port

Post by Andy Velebil »

Decanted about 5 hours at time of this note. The color is still a nice purple and holding nicely at a quarter century. Quite youthful nose full of plums and licorice. Starts out bright and high-toned with a thickness I don't normally associate with Taylor's. It quickly transitions to youthful plums and anise, then wisps of mocha come and go as that unique "Vargellas spirit" springs up on the back part of the mouth. A seamless transition to a long and well balanced finish rounds this out. A SQVP that is not yet at peak and, as a result, is still a bit awkward. I think the best days of this are still to come. This is among the top of the heap for the vintage and just needs a bit more time in the cellar.
