SAMMAMISH PORT CLUB - JUNE 2021 - Sammamish, Washington (6/5/2021)
  • 1991 Kopke Vintage Port - Portugal, Douro, Porto
Slightly cloudy, amber brown in color. Some dusty purple fruit on the nose. Grape hard candies and some noticeable sweetness on the palate. There is medium acidity on the mid-palate and a finish that shows both a little bitterness and heat. (90 pts.)
  • 1995 Taylor Fladgate Quinta de Vargellas Vintage Port - Portugal, Douro, Porto
Dark purple in color with purple-red edges. Almost opaque. Some herbal notes underneath red fruit. Intense blue fruit with some mouth-coating flavors on the palate. Good, long finish with rich dark fruit flavors. (92 pts.)
  • DR 30 Year Old Tawny Port - Portugal, Douro, Porto
Bottled in 2019. Clear, amber-orange in color with slight yellow on the rim. Honey and antique wood furniture notes on the nose with lime, vanilla, and orange creamsicle. Smooth, well-rounded, and elegant mouthfeel. We were debating whether or not we thought this might have some White Port in the blend because of how smoothly the wine presented itself. Exceptional balance, with nice vanilla notes on the long finish. (95 pts.)
  • 2015 Sandeman 30 Year Old Tawny Port - Portugal, Douro, Porto
Bottled in 2015. Light amber-orange in color with pale yellow on the rim. Initially, the nose was a bit closed but eventually gave way to great (if subtle) aromas of vanilla, butterscotch, and orange peel. Rich mouthfeel and great acidity, with layers of caramel, orange spice, and vanilla. (94 pts.)
  • 1976 Kopke Colheita Port - Portugal, Douro, Porto
Bottled in 2018. Dark amber-orange in color with rich, vibrant hues. Orange spice, hazelnut, and vanilla on the nose. Rich mouthfeel with complex notes of cedar, maple syrup, and pralines. (93 pts.)
