1980 Robertson Rebello Valente vintage port

Post by Rune EG »

Last bottle of that vintage port was given to our oldest daughter as a 30 years-gift in 2010. After that it has been stored in two flats in Oslo and three flats in Copenhagen. Early July 2021 she invited Emmy and me + herselves and husband to open the bottle. Based on all the movements I had no expectations, although she pointed out that the bottle had never been exposed to heat or sun. Two previous bottles consumed 2009 and 2011 and both of them got 87 pts.

Decanted 1.5 hrs. Very little deposits. At decanting the colour was light brown, like a tawny (cognac-style). Aroma of herbs, minerals, wood and tiny bit fruit. Hint of some medicinal notes. Medium body. Taste is showing some power, quite elegant, acceptable acidity/sweetness-balance. Medium length aftertaste. Pleasant surprise. 91 pts.

That's a bottle not seen very often. Thanks for the note on it.
