1992 Fonseca VP

Post by P Kaye »

Opened 3 375ml bottles to distance share with our neighbors in lieu of our usual NYE dinner. Decanted 7 hours. All 3 were sound but one had a slightly harsher finish. Neighbor comments were "wonderful" and "really good". I kept the slightly harsh bottle to score and at 7 hours-fresh flowers on the nose, blackberry and plum flavors, and a nice long finish with just a little jarring note at the end. 93 points
One day later-WOW. At 26 hours this was wonderful. Lovely floral nose. The fruit flavors were much deeper plum and prune, maybe a hint of coffee flavor in the finish. The finish was now smooth as silk. The wine just seemed to come together perfectly. There won't be any left tomorrow! 96 on Day 2. [cheers.gif]

I drank a bottle (750ml) last summer also with a neighbor. :-)
My experience was similar to yours. The Port was excellent but lacked a little depth. Unfortunately there was none left for another day.
And maybe she got caught too quickly while socializing...
