Portafino Ruby, Gold Mountains Santa Marta de Penaguao

Post by dave berg »

I don't usually report on bargain finds at the Grocery Outlet in Bonney Lake Wa, especially if they are just OK or good, with no great attributes or defects. This was a bit of a surprise, even if it weren't $8. Not remarkable fruity nose. Dark typical red color. I'd say bright cherry flavor, but with an intriguing dark heavy flavor also. Not fig or date. Nice pronounced alcohol and tannin. Just complex enough to pour another glass, and not cloying. Maybe not a great port to a connoisseur, but I think really pleasing. Would you guess it's $8?

You really should report on these bargain finds. As much as I love old VP, I also enjoy these daily drinkers that I can open anytime without fear of breaking the bank. New finds are encouraged!
